From Benevento to Passo di Mirabella: a safe stage across Campania, with few risks (13th Stage)


You can walk the 24,5 kilometers tour from Benevento until Passo di Mirabella in safe mood,  with only two  exceptions: a short way – in yellow on the map – where the path  run along a medium traffic driveway, and another part where you have to way cross a small stream.

When you are out of Benevento town, you will walk on rural road, without traffic. After 4,5 km from the start point yuou will find a farmhouse named Masseria di San Cumano. Further, the way become an asphalt road that cross a future industrial center. Going on, 16 km. from the start, you have to wade a stream; better if you do it on dry period. Nearby, ruins of a roman bridge and parts of a medieval one.

If you to avoid  the wade, you can reach the main driveway nearby, walk a short stretch of the road, just to go over the stream. The tour runs along a low traffic road, partially paved. And 3 chilometers before the end point of the stage, you will walk on a footpath build along the main road n. 90, a nd you will arrive at the Aeclanum Archeological Park, just off Mirabella Eclano.

The ancient city of Aeclanum, previously a Sannitico center, became a roman municipality.

Inside the archeological area: ruins of city walls, towers, gates, thermal bath, building and shop.

There is also a paleochistian basilica.
